What is it?
The Nationwide Criminal Database Search involves the searching of over 550 million criminal records encompassing thousands of jurisdictions nationwide in a single proprietary database. This search pulls information from different sources, including:
- County courthouses
- Administration of the Court
- State Department of Corrections
- State Sex Offender Registries
- Federal Security Agencies
No single database is all encompassing, however, using a Nationwide Criminal Database search is a great starting point to all background checks.
How does it work?
Our Public Records department reviews any results listed in the NW search to see if there are any potential reportable records matching the applicant. If a reportable record is found matching the applicant, PR will order a county record search for each county (or other applicable jurisdiction) that had a hit to ensure the information being provided is the most up to date and accurate. Because these are database searches, this step is necessary to ensure outdated information is not reported, thereby providing a compliant report.
The National Criminal Database search will search for records nationally, then in specific counties if there is a potential record hit. The Unlimited County search will search for records in all counties the applicant has lived in.
Who needs this search?
Companies that are looking to expand their search parameters beyond the county search as well as searching additional databases should consider running the Nationwide Criminal Search.
Why run this search?
This is an effective search to be run if you want to cast a wider geographic net as well as searching over 100 National Security, Healthcare, Financial, Abuse databases/registries. The search is usually one of the fastest searches to be completed.
