With a parent or guardian's consent and authorization, Verified First enables organizations to run background checks on minors*.
*Note: Verified First does not run background checks on anyone under the age of 15. If the date of birth (DOB) entered shows that the applicant is under 15 years old, the order will automatically be withdrawn and the HR user will be sent an email about the canceled file.
If an individual submits a date of birth (DOB) between the ages of fifteen (15) and seventeen (17), they will still be allowed to submit their electronic signature, authorization, and disclosure; but the order will not begin processing until Verified First receives authorization to do so from the minor's parent/guardian.
In order to obtain parent/guardian authorization, the minor applicant will submit their parent's or guardian's contact information:
An email and/or SMS text message (depending on if email address or cell phone number is entered by the applicant) will be sent to the parent or guardian who will authorize the background screen to be run on the minor applicant:
The parent or guardian will then be required to enter the last 4 digits of the minor applicant's Social Security Number (SSN) before they can provide authorization for the minor applicant to be screened:
At the same time that the parent or guardian is sent the email to provide their authorization, the HR user/file orderer will receive an email letting them know that the applicant is a minor, in the event that they weren't previously aware:
Once the parent or guardian has entered the correct information, they can provide their authorization to have a background check run on the minor. Then the file orderer will be notified of the receipt of authorization and the order can begin processing.
