The SSN Mismatch feature prevents background checks from running when an applicant’s Social Security Number and/or name are entered incorrectly.
To enable or configure this setting for your account, please contact Verified First Client Services.
How Does this Feature Work?
If the Social Security Address Trace (SSN Trace) is part of the initial order, we will only process the SSN Trace first and ‘hold’ all other products ordered. Once we receive the results, we will automatically compare the last name(s) found vs the last name(s) that were originally entered.
If we identify any match, all the other screening products ordered will begin processing.
If there is not a match or no results found on the SSN Trace, we will put the File into a ‘Draft’ and notify the File Owner/Orderer of a potential SSN mismatch. Within the email is a button that will route you to the file in question.
When you access the file, you can select the Social Security Address Trace to view the name searched vs the developed name(s) from the SSN Trace.
In the Draft Order panel, you will have 3 options to choose from:
- Continue
- Proceed without changes.
- This will walk you through the order to begin processing the file with the information entered and add all products that were held.
- Complete
- This will complete the file ‘as is,’ meaning all held products will not be added and the file will be in a Complete status.
- As the SSN Trace was fully executed in order to determine whether a mismatch existed, the service was rendered and incurred costs.
- This will complete the file ‘as is,’ meaning all held products will not be added and the file will be in a Complete status.
- Edit Order
- This will begin creating a new file.
- All previously entered information will be pre-filled, but will allow you to make any edits necessary to the name entered, Social Security Number, etc.
- Once the new file is submitted, the original file will move to a Complete status, and no products are added.
- Suggestion: Please confirm the correct information with the applicant before selecting “Edit Order.”
- As the initial trace was processed, the search incurs the associated cost. The newly created order with updated PII requires a fresh SSN Trace execution, so both trace transactions are billable.
